Who Am I
Hello! My name is Alex Carabetta, and I aspire to do something in the field of clinical genetics that helps others in a way best suited for me. I began my scientific journey in high school, where I helped lead WiSE, a club geared towards fellow women in STEM. I also took difficult science courses, which assisted me in finding my current passion for all things molecular biology.
Coming into UConn, I decided to pursue a BS in Molecular and Cell Biology. I joined UConn's International Genetically Engineering Machine (iGEM) team and eventually became the secretary of that. I am also a mentor for my learning community, Women in Math, Science, and Engineering (WiMSE). This current semester, I have started work in the Spirituality, Meaning, and Health Lab with Dr. Crystal Park.
Because of iGEM and the UConn Genome Ambassadors Program, I discovered the field of genetic counseling and UConn's Diagnostic Genetic Sciences program. I am planning on applying to this program and pursuing a dual degree in both this and my crrent major, Molecular and Cell Biology. After I graduate with these degrees, I plan on pursuing my Masters in Genetic Counseling.
In my free time, I love to walk, take care of my plants, and listen or play music
