Who Am I

I grew up and went to school in Maryland. Helping others brings me joy and satisfaction, which is a big reason as to why I aspire to become a physician one day. In my free time, I enjoy video games, traveling, and spending time with my loved ones.

Last summer, I completed a clinical observership in La Chorrera, Panama where I watched and listened during patient histories, witnessed an autopsy, and even got the chance to see childbirth! I also volunteered at a clinic of injuries to assist one of the doctors there. I saw such a wide variety of injuries and was taught how to treat them. I used sterile saline for irrigation, placed gauzes on the wounds, and helped slip on tubular meshes at the end. During this experience, time had passed by so quickly that I didn’t even realize we had treated nearly thirty patients by the end of the shift!

In the past year, I have worked as an intern at the USDA Beltsville Agricultural Research Center to investigate a particular kind of bacteria called myxobacteria, as well as its effectiveness against phytopathogenic fungi. Throughout this study, I prepared media for bacteria and fungi, used an autoclave machine (for sterilization), grew bacteria and fungi, and made measurements of growth. I've developed important skills such as data collection and analysis, effective collaboration, problem-solving, time management, and research skills.

As a rising freshman about to start my very first semester at the University of Maryland - College Park, I am excited that I earned an invitation to participate in the BioFIRE scholars program as well as a spot in the Limited Enrollment Program of Physiology and Neurobiology.
